A Parent-Teacher Meet of the first year degree students was organized on November 07, 2023 at 3:00pm at T.V. Raman Pai Hall, Mangaluru.

The distinguished Chief Guest, Dr. Rameela Shekhar, a Mental Health Professional from Mana Shanthi, Mangaluru, highlighted the significant shift in students’ attitudes as they embark on their college journey. Dr. Shekhar observed that with the introduction of newfound freedom and a plethora of opportunities in college leads to noticeable changes in students’ behavior. Beyond the evolution of relationships and friendships, some students, faced with the challenge of adapting to this unfamiliar environment, may exhibit signs of increased reserve or hesitation.

Addressing both parents and teachers, Dr. Shekhar emphasized the crucial role of expressing love and affection from parents to their children. She underscored the importance of parents exercising patience in understanding their children as they navigate and adjust to the new exposures and experiences that college life brings. The insightful remarks shed light on the need for a supportive and understanding environment to facilitate students’ successful adaptation to the challenges of college life.

Dr. Premalatha V., the Principal of Canara College, provided a thorough understanding by delving into the college’s rules, regulations, timings, and an array of facilities. Her address aimed to ensure parents were well-informed about the institutional framework, fostering a collaborative and supportive relationship between the college and parents in the students’ educational journey.

Mrs. Dejamma A., Programme Head, B.Com& B.B.A, Mrs. Sandhya B, Programme Head, B.Sc & Mrs. Jayabharathi K. P. Head, B.C.A. Programme provided comprehensive insights into their respective programs. They covered various crucial aspects, including detailed explanations about examination procedures, highlighting the importance of regular attendance and other activities.

To enhance the connection between parents and faculty, fostering transparent communication channels for the overall development of students, parents were nominated to contribute actively within the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).

CA M. Jagannath Kamath, Correspondent, Canara College, in his presidential address drew a heartfelt analogy, describing children as treasures deserving of meticulous care. Mr. Kamath voiced concern over the potential lack of attention children may face when their parents are engrossed in professional commitments. He stressed the importance of striking a balance between work and family life, urging parents to actively engage in their children’s lives. Acknowledging the challenges of modern working parents, he emphasized that the college, as an extended family, is dedicated to creating an environment that complements parental efforts. Mr. Kamath’s address resonated with a call to action, encouraging parents to actively participate in their children’s academic and extra-curricular pursuits, ensuring a harmonious integration of work and family life for the holistic development of the students.

Dr. Kalpana Prabhu J., the Head of the Department of Hindi and Staff Welfare Secretary, extended a warm welcome to both the distinguished guest and the assembled gathering. Mrs. Prathima V. Baliga, Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science & Applications and IQAC Coordinator, expressed gratitude in her role delivering the Vote of Thanks. The event initiated with a tranquil prayer led by Shwetha Kamath, a student from III BCA, and concluded with the national anthem.

Altogether 385 parents and 50 teachers participated in the programme. The Program Increased parental awareness and engagement in their child’s education and Implemented targeted interventions for academic improvement,Strengthened parent-teacher collaboration leading to enhanced student support and well-being.The programme strived to contribute to national development and inculcate a sense of value system amongst all.
