‘Introduction to Phonetics’ was conducted for the members of English association on August 5, 2015. Pramod Kumar P.S, convener, English Association, introduced the members to Phonics, a branch of linguistics, where the sounds and physical properties of human speech are studied. One hour session touched on issues like sounds and spelling with IPA, and the importance to recognize and use them. Activities were conducted and students were introduced to English pronunciation dictionary. Three students of the association actively participated in this programme.
Participants learnt phonetic script that is used in transcribing speech into symbols.
