Mere learning from textbooks and lectures does not suffice for holistic learning. Practical, hands-on learning is essential for better understanding of work processes and business functions. Therefore, as an integral part of the curriculum, also with an aim to go beyond academics and classroom learning, the students of BBA got an opportunity to visit three local industries located in Manipal and Kapu viz., Udaya Group Industries, Hangya Ice-Creams Pvt Ltd and Bicco Joy Juice Industries, on January 23, 2016 from 9.00 A.M. to 5.00 P.M. A team of 42 students comprising members of Management Association and the students of Final BBM has participated in the industrial tour organized by the Dept. Business Management. Giving practical exposure on the subject learnt is the main objective of such industrial visit. On reaching the doorstep of the industries, the students and the faculties were well received by the proprietor and the employees. During their visit to these three different industries, they were briefed about the industrial background, its functioning, operations, processes involved, employment related details and so on… The kind gesture and pleasing hospitality extended by the proprietor and the employees of the Industries is worth to be appreciated. The industrial visit truly added practical value to the student’s theoretical formal learning within the classroom. It also ensured that students are all in touch with the practicalities of real industrial working which usually differs from what they actually have learnt. The students also had a meaningful interaction with the officials of the industry. Overall it was educational in nature with rich learning experience.This activity served to achieve the core values of fostering global competency amongst the students.
