Moral Awareness Programme on “Rescue from Evils of Society”

It is vital to reverse the trend and engage young adults and teenagers in productive and socially acceptable behaviors as against the increasing evils in the society. In this view, the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the College organized a Moral Awareness Programme on “Rescue from Evils of Society”in association with RESCUE, a Mysore-based NGO on February 19, 2016 at 9:30 AM at T. V. Raman Pai Convention Centre, Mangaluru. Mr. Abhishek Clifford Jacob, CEO and Co-Founder of the Trustwas the key speaker and Dr. Zion Sharma, Coordinator facilitated the session.

Mr. Abhishek Clifford Jacob, an English social activist has involved in social work in India since the year 1996. Being the CEO and Co-Founder of the Charitable Trust, he is very much passionate about the growing social and ethical issues. In this regard he undertakes varied initiatives to sensitize the upcoming generation to promote Indian ethos, moral values and traditional culture among the youth. While addressing the students he said – “Rescue is an NGO which conducts moral awareness programmes in more than 200 colleges each year.” Throwing light on the growing social evils he said “Pornography is creating a generation of young men who have no respect for their life partner. With constant exposure to pornography it shrinks man’s brain it creates higher tolerance for abnormal sexuality aggression. Further explaining about the horrors of constant exposure to the explicit materials a porn addicted mind is like that of a drug addict, who is a major threat to marriage, family and society at large.”

Further, he said the outcome of the survey made by him highlighting disturbing statistics are given to authorities including the police and those in education and demand serious debate and action. Unchecked, the consequences on Indian families, children and society will be devastating. He also recommended that Cyber Ethics should be included in the curriculum. College students should be warned of the dangers of watching of porn.

Dr. Zion Sharma, Coordinator in his addressed focused on finding solutions to cybercrimes. He stated – “Today’s media saturated society has made it much harder for parents to protect their children from pornography and other evils. The defenses against pornography are close family life, a good marriage and good inter-personal relations between parents and children.”

Principal Dr. K. V. Malini in her address said – “Although the Government has kept a tight lid on sexual traffic and business, however with regard to porn it has gone soft, except where child pornography is concerned. Hence, the need of the day is to create awareness in the present generation to overcome the addiction to pornography.” In this regard, the social concern initiative of Rescue Team is well appreciated.

Vice Principal and IQAC Coordinator Dr. Manohar S. Joishi Kumble delivered the welcome address. Mrs. Premalatha V.,Head, Dept. of Mathematics proposed the vote of thanks. Nearly 1,500 students and faculty members benefitted from the session.

The programme was successful in igniting the essence of social values. It also called upon to uphold the dignity of our nation and to have moral accountability. It was well received by the students and faculty members.
The session strived to achieve the core values of contributing to national development and inculcating value system among the attendees.
