Aatida Nempu, a programme was organized by Tulu Sangha, Canara College, Mangalore, in association with Literary Associations on August 9, 2017, at college seminar hall. Mr. Manohar Prasad Chief of News Bureau of Udayavani Kannada Daily was the chief guest for the function.
In his informative speech he explained the significance of the month and said, “Our ancestors believed the month was a bad omen as people used to fall sick.The food items which were prepared during summer and specially preserved for this season were brought out as people didn’t have sufficient food items to eat. People would use natural vegetables which were tasty, healthy and good medicines for sickness.”
Mr. Prasad narrated his life story and went down memory lane to recall childhood day’s Aati celebrations. He lamented that, “modernity has brought a paradigm shift in our understanding of Tulu culture.We need to experience life in the traditional way and the life will bring prosperity and peace.” He appreciated the Tulu Sangha and literary associations to efforts to save the fading culture of Tulunadu.
Dr. Malini KV, principal of the college, in her presidential remarks emphasized the need for preserving culture and said, “In the technological revolution age we have lost our cultural roots due to the onslaught of cultural invasion from all quarters. Programmes like AatidaNempu has become a powerful instrument of preserving our rich culture and tradition.”
Prof. Smitha M, Prof. Savita, conveners of Tulu sangha and Prof. Tara Kumari, convener of the Literary Association and Prof. Vani U.S, convenor of Kannada Sangha were present. Aati food festival drew attention of the gathering as many dishes were presented to gathering to the Tulu tradition of food-making. “Aatikalanja’ was the special attraction of the programme.
Ms. Nishmita welcomed the gathering. Mr. Harshith Kumar extended the vote of thanks and Mr. Prajwal compeered the programme. Total of 110 students participated in this program.
