Using literature as a form of communication allows youth to express themselves in healthy ways. Exposure to the world around them sparks curiosity and creative thinking in youth. Culturally responsive experiences are those that help youth see themselves represented in literature. In this direction, Karavali Lekakiyara–Vachakiyara Sangha of undivided Dakshina Kannada and Kasargod district is endeavoring towards promotion of healthy literature”, said Mr. M R Vasudev, former Director of Mangalore Airport, speaking as the chief guest on the occasion of ShrimatiDevakiyamma, Chandra Bhagi Rai, and Radhabhai Narayana Babu Endowment prize distribution, a program jointly organized by Karavali Lekakiyara–Vachakiyara Sangha and Literary Association, Canara College Mangaluru on Wednesday, August 23, 2017.
Dr. Malini K.V ,presided over the programme. Smt. Shashikala, President, Karavali Lekakiyara–Vachakiyara Sangha delivered the introductory speech. Senior writer and researcher B M Rohini speech threw light on the significance of the endowment prize. The award is annually given to the students for critical writings on literary works. The competition was conducted in four languages. The prize winners are as follows: Abhishek and Pooja Bhakta (Kannada) Ayesha Rasmiya (Hindi) Priyanka Bhat (Sanskrit) and Akshay (English). Prof. Thara Kumari, convener of the Literary Association, Co-Conveners of various Language associations Prof. Vani U.S, Dr.Shantala Vishwas, Prof. Sujata G., Mr. Pramod Kumar P.S., were present at the programme. Mrs. Sujaya Shetty, proposed the vote of thanks. Mrs. Nalinakshi compeered the programme.
Nearly 180 students attended the programme and the winners received the cash prizes.
