To create awareness of dengue and encourage as well as provide a cleaner and safer environment, The Youth Red Cross Society and the NSS units of Canara College conducted a Dengue awareness programme on July 22, 2019 at Smt. Rathnabai Memorial Hall.
Sr. Reema Shakwa and Ms. Pooja Bangera, Students, the Department of Social Work, Roshani Nilaya, Mangaluru described the symptoms, preventive and remedial actions of dengue to the students. They encouraged students to raise awareness among their family members and neighborhood about the disease. They cautioned students that negligence in getting treated can even lead to deaths.
Resource persons displayed different videos on Dengue and its transmission. They gave a talk about prevalence of Dengue in Mangaluru and residents role in curbing the threat. They also clarified the preventive steps to be taken by individuals at their place of work and residence.
110 students attended the awareness programme. Resource persons trained participants to detect the larva of Dengue and instructed students to undertake a dengue survey at various locations of Mangaluru City. With the aim of combating Dengue disease, students went on a larva hunting drive on July 24, 2019 and recognized as well as destroyed mosquito larva in and off the campus. Through this campaign, major emphasis was laid on preventing stagnation of water, which often becomes breeding ground for mosquitoes.
The Youth Red Cross staff coordinators Mrs. Smitha M and Mrs. Roopashri K.P and The NSS officers Mrs. Seema Prabu S. and Ms. Vindya B.B. were also the part of this programme.
