NSS units of the college participated in Dengue larva survey in association with district health department, Mangaluru City. The survey was conducted on July 24, 2019. 110 NSS volunteers of the college participated along with NSS Programme officer Mrs. Seema Prabhu S. Volunteers assembledat town Hall premises at 8 am on the above date.
District Vector Borne Disease Control Officer (DVBDCO) addressed the students. In his address he said government is planning to take all the measures to control Dengue and the larva survey is a one step towards the same. He expressed a sense of satisfaction for the participation of students in the survey. He also explained the methodology, ways and means of conducting the survey. 142 students in group of 5 each participated in the larva survey. Each team is accompanied by one official from Mangalore City Corporation. On an average each team visited 50-60 houses in the area allotted to them. Students understood the dwelling problems and sewage problem in some areas and expressed their sympathy on the same.
This extension activity by the NSS unit of the college is a value addition to the students and it has improved their competency. The field survey helped the students to understand the real problems of the people at the bottom level and to gain knowledge about the initiatives taken by Government. It was a capacity building initiative contributing to the national development and help to inculcate a strong value system among the students.
This activity enhanced the knowledge of the volunteers about the initiatives taken by the Government to control Dengue fever and precautions to be taken to control Dengue.
