The NSS units of Canara College, Mangaluru organized a one day camp for the NSS volunteers on September 10, 2019 at D.K.Z.P. H.P.School, Kodman , Bantwala Taluk. 121 volunteers with 2 Programme officers participated in the camp. The participants assembled at Canara College and travelled to Kodman by bus. The Campers reached Kodman at 8:30 am. Morning breakfast was served in Government Higher Primary School, Kodman. The volunteers were divided in groups and the shramadhan spot was allotted to different groups. The work included removing the weeds and plastics. All the volunteers participated in the Shramadhan for 4 hours.
In the afternoon after the lunch competitions were conducted as a part of Golden Jubilee celebrations of NSS. The competitions were judged by Sri Kodman Kantappa Shetty, Sri Pavan, Mrs. Seema Prabhu S. and Ms. Vindya B.B. Sri Kodman Kantappa Shetty expressed his happiness about the Shramadhan of the Volunteers and promised to help the NSS unit of the Canara College in the coming days too.
It was a great experience to the volunteers and the Programme officers to understand the village life and its functioning. The physical work “Shramadhan” gives a sense of satisfaction and dignity of labour. The main objective of the programme is to educate the students the need to serve society and understand the problems faced by villagers. The students expressed their happiness and promised to participate in NSS activities in the upcoming days.
Students learnt the dignity of labour, division of work, joy of serving the society and team work.
