There are special moments and occasions in the existence of every edifice that brings everyone together. Annual College Day is one such day when we remember the past and all the good things that have come along with it during the year. Further, it reminds us of where our institution stands at.
With our annual theme “Changing with Times”, the 47th Annual College Day Celebration 2019-20 was held on January 18, 2020 at 3:30 PM. Chief Guest Sri Basti Purushotham Shenoy, Correspondent, Canara Kannada Higher Primary School and Canara Balavadi, while addressing the august gathering he recollected the exemplary leadership of all the Principals and distinguished services of all the faculty members who have selflessly served this great institution since its very inception. Remarking on the significant growth of the institute, he said – “Our illustrious Alumni are the real ambassadors who have imbibed in them the values and philosophies of our great Founder – Sri Ammembal Subba Rao Pai. It is our proud Alumni who have added luster and glory to the brand “CANARA”. Education at Canara has proved to be a “Game Changer for many.” As key take away to the young minds he urged to turn the torch within and called upon to focus on three aspects viz., excel in whatever you do; inculcate the habit of reading and develop a positive attitude.”
Our proud academic achiever for the year 2018-19, Ms. Lavanya M., while proposing the toast said “the positivity, vibrancy, soothing environment of the college and continuous encouragement by the faculty mentors has enabled me to accomplish this academic achievement. There is no shortcut to success. Hard work and determination determine the success.”
Guest of Honor Smt. Basti Radha Shenoy honored the academic and special achievers.
CA Vaman Kamath, Alternate Treasurer, C. H. S. Association, Mangaluru presided over the programme. Lauding all the achievers in his presidential address he said – “We see students excelling in academics; but when it comes to its practical application it is abundantly missing. Hence, there is an intense need to bridge the gap between what is learnt and what is really expected. Professionalism is the real need of current job market. Therefore, get groomed and trained during your days of learning as per the expectations of present day industry.” Also he urged the students to develop an attitude of humility and feel grateful to your institute which has played a vital role in making you the responsible and worthy citizens of the nation.
Mrs. Vani U. S., Student Welfare Mentor welcomed the gathering. Principal Dr. K. V. Malini read the College Annual Report highlighting the key developments and fine accomplishments of the students and staff during the year. Sri Maroor Sudhir Pai, Correspondent of the College and Mrs. Savithri K., Principal, Canara Evening College, graced the occasion. Dr. Kalpana J. Prabhu, Head, Dept. of Hindi, called upon the student awardees. Mrs. Prathima V. Baliga, Student Welfare Mentor proposed the vote of thanks. Dr. Prashanth, Student Welfare Mentor and the Office Bearers of Students’ Welfare Council were present on the occasion. Mrs. Jayabharathi K. P., Head, Dept. of Computer Science & Applications compered the programme. The Heads of Sister Institutions, retired Professors and special invitees witnessed the celebration.
This was followed by cultural extravaganza where the students brought their creative and artistic talents to limelight. Students Bindiya Shet and Sanjan compered the cultural programme. The entertainment programme concluded with National Anthem.
Altogether 1000 students and 100 staff members participated in this programme.
