Every occasion celebrated has its own significance, meaning and new learning for all. A week-long celebration at Canara College marks its close with the joyous celebration of Union Day 2019-20 by the Students’ Welfare Council. With our annual theme for the year “Changing with Times” the College Union Day Celebration 2019-20 was held on January 18, 2020 at 9:30 AM.
Our proud Alumnus CA Prasanna Shenoy M., was the Chief Guest for the day and unfurled the College Flag. With all gratefulness to his Alma mater and cherishing the illustrious vision of our great Founder Late Sri Ammembal Subba Rao Pai he said – “It is that distinct vision of our Founder which has immensely contributed to the field of education and banking. His efforts are indeed matchless. Further, today in the digital world we are disconnected with connected world. Personal touch is lacking in today‟s generation. Therefore, being social is indispensable. Students graduating need to develop their competencies and skills to match the requirements of the competitive world. Being ethical by reflecting the values of the profession is a pre-requisite today. He appealed the students to develop a professional attitude and take active part in nation building process. Learn to unlearn new things, adapt to changes and accelerate to your goals are the mantras for your success” he added.
The delightful presence of CA S. S. Kamath, President, C. H. S. Association added more fragrance and elegance to our celebration. His message with inspirational thoughts of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam inspired all of us.
Principal Dr. K. V. Malini presided over the programme. In her presidential address she said – “ It is the time for us to reflect on we have accomplished, what more we shall strive for and what our exemplary management is doing for us. What we are today is the collective effort of all. Let us all work united and take the institution to the greater heights. Further, it is also a time to ponder as final year students are in the threshold of leaving the institution and the first year students may be thinking about the vivid opportunities to explore in their upcoming years. However, a slow transformation is taking place in the due course while transforming you all to face the competitive world and make as responsible citizens.” Calling upon the students, she said each one has to develop five values of being an ideal student viz., Kaka Chesta – develop the perseverance of a crow, Bako Dhyanam – develop concentration of a swan, Shwan Nindra – develop the quality of becoming vigilant and awakened as dog, Alpa-ahari – develop light appetite and Grih Tyagi – preparedness to leave homely comfort zones.”
