As prelude to International Women’s Day, two day workshop on Kannada & Tulu Wikipedia on the theme ‘Indian Women Folklore’ was organized by the Department of Computer Science, Canara College, Mangaluru in association with Karavali Wiki medians and Wiki women, Mangaluru on February 15-16, 2020 at Canara College Computer Laboratory.
Tulu Wikipedia editor Smt. Vinaoda Prasad Rai, the chief guest of the formal session, advised students to research on culture and come up with articles that are useful through the medium of Wikipedia. In her presidential address, Dr. K.V Malini, Principal, Canara College, urged students to contribute well researched articles to Wikipedia and said, “This workshop provides students with an opportunity to learn the history and culture of India and to share knowledge with others.”
Dr. U.B. Pavanaja Secretary, Karavali Wiki medians Mangaluru, who was the resource person for the workshop, encouraged the participants of the workshop to utilize and share knowledge acquired during the workshop.
Other resource person Ms. Dhanalakshmi K.T Economic Analyst, Northern Trust, Bengaluru said that working with Wikipedia provides a professional experience to the students.
Mrs. Babitha Shetty, Convenor of the workshop welcomed the gathering, Mrs. Prathima Baliga compered and Mrs. Adithi Nayak proposed the vote of thanks.
The chief guest for the valedictory programme, Dr. Kishore Kumar Rai, Treasurer, Karavali Wiki medians, Mangaluru shared Karavali Wiki medians activities, periodical meet ups and also invited everyone to be a part of it.
President of Karavali Wiki medians, Mangaluru Dr. Vishwanatha Badikana appealed students to participate in this kind of workshop and voluntarily contribute articles to Wikipedia.
The valedictory session was hosted by Mrs. Smitha. Mrs. Sujatha Nayak welcomed the gathering and Mrs. Shailaja Kumary proposed the vote of thanks. More than 15 new theme based articles were contributed by the participant to Wikipedia and all the participants were awarded certificates of participation.
