Promoting and understanding the idea of quality A webinar on “Quality Assurance Strategies for Excellence in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs)” was organized by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) on June 07, 2021 at 11:00 AM through Google Meet platform.

CA M. Vaman Kamath, Treasurer, C.H.S. Association, Mangaluru in his opening note said “The future depends on what we do in the present. Hence, there is a greater need to reaffirm the individual and collective responsibility towards our Institution at micro and to our society at macro level. Further, every great crisis comes with great opportunity and thus, life-long learning should go on. Continuous improvement in every field is always required. It can thus lead to the improvement of overall quality of the system.”

Dr. Samir Sarkar, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Business Administration and Placement Officer, Gauhati University, Assam delivered the Keynote Address. He said “Quality is a result – the result of being aware of quality but it is more important of being aware of the future. Achieving quality in higher education requires an institution to find a balance between responsibility for quality and concern for continuous improvement.” His presentation emphasized on the facts relating to the quality of research. He also touched upon the issues and concerns pertaining to the quality of research, reforms in the research field, opportunities to explore on collaborations, Quality Ranking Framework and the implications of NEP 2019 on these said aspects.

The Key Speaker Prof. Dr. Utpal Sarma, Professor, Dept. of Instrumentation and USIC and Former Director of IQAC, Gauhati University, Assam in in his address said “Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives. Therefore, the quest to become quality institution is in itself a core value that HEIs should imbibe and demonstrate in their functioning. The HEIs must strive to address the quality parameters in a holistic approach. Quality therefore must become outcome-oriented and not output-based.” Further, he explained the entire process flow of A & A process and also touched upon the seven criterions of NAAC, illustrated its Quality Key Indicators (KIs). At the end of the session, he also clarified the queries raised by the participants.

Ms. Varshini K., Student, III B.Sc. (PMC) rendered the prayer song. Principal Dr. Premalatha V. delivered the welcome address and also introduced the Speakers to the gathering. IQAC Coordinators Mrs. Dejamma A. proposed the vote of thanks and Mr. Hardik P. Chauhan and was the Master of Ceremony for the programme.

A total of 70 participants including the faculty, research scholars and students participated in this webinar.

The webinar enabled the participants to understand the need for instilling quality culture in the system thereby contributing to the journey of excellence. It also acquainted with the ways of ushering quality through NAAC A & A process.

The programme strived to promote the core values of inculcating a value system and eliciting quest for excellence amongst the participants.
