The Department of Kannada organized an International Webinar on July 13, 2021 on the topic “Adhunika Kathana Sahithya Avalokana, in association with Soundarya Institute of Management and Science, Siddhamangala Seva Kendra, Bengaluru, Basavabalaga, Muscut. “In this modern world, fluency of language and affinity with language is decreasing day by day. In such a scenario, the novels like ‘Odalala’, ‘Kiragoorina Gayyaligalu’ and ‘Chandragiriya Teeradalli’ greatly influence the minds of the students and also change their way of thinking”, said Dr. Premalatha V., Principal, Canara College, Mangaluru, in her inaugural address.
Shri. Shivana Gowda Patil, Yoga Teacher, Bengaluru, wished all the best to the programme. Prof. Jayashree M. Odeyar, President, Siddhamangala Seva Kendra, Bengaluru, pointed out the objectives of the Webinar.
The main resource persons of the webinar, Dr. Sheela Devi S., Malimut, Associate Professor,Department of Kannada ,B.M.S. Women’s College, Bengaluru; Prof. Malarvili, HOD, Kannada, Presidency University Bengaluru and Dr. Shelva Kumari, Associate Professor In Kannada, Maharani Cluster College, Bengaluru shared their thoughts on the novels like Odalala, Kiragoorina Gayyaligalu and Chandragiriya Theeradalli, a newly introduced syllabus for the degree students under Mangalore University. Dr. Nirmala Amaresh, Secretary, Indian Social Forum, Muscat, was the Chief Guest of the webinar. Mr. Basthi Purushothama Shenoy, Alternate Treasurer, C.H.S. Association, Mangaluru, presided over the webinar. In his Presidential address he said, ”Over the last 50 years, the world of Kannada Literature has undergone a lot of changes.” Dr. Sara Aboobaker, novelist of Chandragiriya Theeradalli, emphasised on the individuality of Muslim women’s life. He also added that the novels such as ‘Odalala’ and ‘Kiragoorina Gayyaligalu’ explore the police system, politics, superstition and women empowerment.”
Mr. P. Manjappa, Founder of Soundarya Institution; Mr. Keerthan Kumar, the Chief Executive Officer; Dr. Suresh C. Hegadi, Principal, Soundarya College; Shri. B.N. Hangarage, Basava Balaga, Muscat and Mrs. Shailaja P., lecturer, Dept. of Kannada were present for the webinar.
