The extension Activity on Paddy Planting Programme organized by Department of Commerce in Association with Canara College Alumni (R)and UdayaYuvaka Mandala Abbettu was held on August 01, 2021 at Abbettu Village, KodmanTaluk, Bantwal. The paddy cultivation programme was inaugurated symbolically by planting paddy in the field by Sri LakshmikanthNayak, Retired Banker from the village. In his inaugural address he said thatPaddy is the basic source of food of South Canara and in our culture we worship food as God. So it is at most necessary to create awareness among the youths.Mrs. Jayashree Karkera, President of Mere MajalGramaPanchayat was the chief guest. In her address she highlighted the need for paddy cultivation. She also stressed on knowing about paddy cultivation by youth, difficulties and challenges faced by the farmers in paddy cultivation. Mrs Dejamma HOD of Commerce, Canara College appreciated the villagers for inviting the Canara College, being a part of this programme and assured to participate similar kind of extension activities with students of the college which will provide an experiential learning which will be much knowledgeable than book. This was followed by planting paddy in the field nearly 2 acres of land along with the villagers. Mrs. Dejamma A, Mrs. Seema Prabhu S and Mrs. UshaNayak,Staff members and 50 students were present and alumni took active participation in this extension activity.
