In pursuance with the directives of the Regulating Authorities concerned, a Stakeholders Awareness Workshop for Students and Parents on “NEP 2020 : A Vision for New Horizon – An Understanding of and Orientation to the Intent, Implementation and Prospects in Higher Education” was organized by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at 2:00 PM in the College Seminar Hall.
The Principal Dr. Premalatha V. in her opening address said “NEP 2020 is indeed a monumental step and a need of the hour. It is not just about reading of the document, but understanding, analyzing, interpreting and getting a clear picture of it. NEP 2020 aims at filling of various gaps between national and international level of education system. Therefore, NEP is a welcome breath of fresh air intending to meet the evolving needs of new-age learning so as to make India a global knowledge superpower”.
The Keynote Speaker Mr. Devi Prasad, Special Officer – NAAC and Academics, Office of Regional Joint Director, Dept. of Collegiate Education, Mangaluru Region, in his Keynote address said “The NEP 2020 aims to reorient the education system towards meeting the needs of 21st century. Challenges and constraints are quite obvious with the implementation of any new policy. Hurdles in the process of effective implementation of NEP can be overcome with the support of all the stakeholders. Hence, all the stakeholders need to take ownership of the policy”.
The Resource Speaker Prof. Dr. T. P. M. Pakkala, Adjunct Professor of Statistics, Mangalore University, Mangalagangothri in his session said “The NEP 2020 envisages far-reaching transformation in the prevailing education system. The policy endeavors to dissolve disciplinary boundaries that have been creating hindrances in the holistic development of a learner. It is a significant stride towards making education more meaningful, assimilative, multi-disciplinary and skill-centric. It intends to make pedagogy more experiential, holistic, integrated, learner-centric, giving flexibility to students to pursue their passion at the same time enhancing their skillsets enabling them to become more employable. The substantial impetus placed on vocational education and hands-on learning in the new policy will give rise to multiple hybrid jobs. The transformational approach from marks based report card to a holistic evaluation is a future-ready shift. With several such other standout provisions in the policy, it aims to overhaul the existing education system at large”.
The President of the programme Sri Basti Purushotham Shenoy, Correspondent, Canara Pre-University College, Mangaluru, congratulated all the newly admitted first year students for having sought their admissions at Canara College. In his presidential address he said “The NEP 2020 will certainly set foundation for 21st century India. This policy endeavors to instill among the learners a deep-rooted pride in being Indian, not only in thought, but also in spirit, intellect, and deeds, as well as to develop knowledge, skills, values, and dispositions that support responsible commitment to human rights, sustainable development and living, and global well-being, thereby reflecting a truly global citizen.
This was then followed by a Question and Answer session in which the participants expressed their concerns and queries which were addressed by the Resource Speaker.
Ms. Anusha Shet, Student, II B.Com. rendered the prayer song. IQAC Coordinators Mrs. Dejamma A. delivered the welcome address and also introduced the Speakers to the gathering; Mr. Hardik P. Chauhan proposed the vote of thanks and Mrs. Vani U. S., Head, Dept. of Kannada and Student Welfare Mentor was the Master of Ceremony for the programme. The Convener of NEP Implementation Taskforce Committee Mrs. Sandhya B. was also present during the programme. The programme concluded with the National Anthem.
A total of 58 participants including the students and parents participated in this workshop. Besides, Heads and faculty members of various Departments also attended the programme.
The programme was indeed informative and useful for the participants. It acquainted them with the intent, implementation and prospects of NEP 2020 in the Higher Education.
The programme strived to promote the core value of contributing to the national development.
