Educational study tour is an essential part of the study of life science.
To widen the sphere of mental level of the students they should be given a chance to get direct and first-hand experience to see the things themselves.
Educational study tour was conducted for 30 III BZC students along with 2 teaching and 1 non-teaching staff from July 01, 2022 to July 04, 2022 to Ooty, Coimbatore etc. They visited significant places like the Ooty lake, Botanical garden, Department of horticulture & plantation crops, the Nilgiris, Dodabetta and Tea Factory, The Eco Development Committee (EDC) in Pagalkod Mund.
Students gained practical knowledge regarding plants and animals and also their nature, habits and habitats. Photographs of different available animals as well as beautiful landscapes were taken by the students. Importance of natural science is realized only when they experience and observe the existence of animals in their habitat. Students interacted with the local people to know the diversity of animals in their environment.
The lake was surrounded by lush greenery and eucalyptus trees that add to the serenity of the place. The lake also holds some appeal for birdwatchers as it shelters a variety of birds.
Maintained by the Horticultural Department of Tamil Nadu, Botanical Gardens of Ooty is undeniably one of the most popular places to see in Ooty. Spread over 55 acres of land, this garden is divided into five different sections such as Fern House, Lower Garden, Italian Garden, Conservatory and Nurseries. The wide variety of plants here are worth exploring.
Dodabetta is located at an altitude of 2623 meters, Doddabetta Peak is the highest peak in the Nilgiris. At the junction of Western and Eastern Ghats, it is around 10 km away from Ooty. Covered by dense sholas, this peak is trekkers favourite point. The view from the top of the peak is absolutely mesmerizing, there is a telescope house at the peak with two telescopes presenting captivating view of the valley around. Rich flora and fauna here add on to the overall charm of Doddabetta Peak.
Inside the Tea factory, one can learn and appreciate the method of tea processing by CTC (Cut, Twist and Curl) machines. Visitors can sip a hot cup of tea as they admire the beautiful surroundings of the place. They can see the entire processing method right from the freshly plucked green leaves to its packaging.
An Eco-Development Committee (EDC), run by the Todas in Pagalkod Mund at the Ninth Mile shooting Medu in Udhagamandalam, is not just a popular tourist spot. Owing to the forest management practices adopted by the tribals that run it, the centres also highlight the roles that the communities play in the regeneration of Shola forests and grassland.
The hilly zone has cultivated crops such as vegetables, fruits, flowers, spices and plantation crops. The cultivation is done mainly in terraced lands and on narrow slopes.
