Graduation Day is not just the cessation of college life, but simultaneously, the commencement of life outside the four walls of this safe refuge. No wonder, the day comes with a plethora of emotions for students, teachers and families alike. It is a time of celebration, reminiscence and reflections, as the future unfurls with a myriad of promises, hopes and aspirations.
The year 2020-21 has been an unforgettable year in terms of getting accustom to the new normal for teaching-learning experience. However, this has not affected the dedication and hard work of the students and the teachers of the Institute in shaping and preparing its students for their future endeavors.
Indeed a momentous milestone in the history of the Institution as it commemorates the Golden Jubilee year of its illustrious existence of educating for righteous life. To make it more significant and also to celebrate the progression and advancement of the graduating students, the Institute’s First ever Graduation Day Ceremony of the Graduands from the Class of 2020-21 was celebrated with grandeur on Sunday, July 24, 2022 at 10:00 AM in Sri Sudheendra Auditorium, Canara High School Campus, Dongerkery, Mangaluru. Prof. Dr. P. L. Dharma, Registrar (Evaluation), Mangalore University, Mangalagangothri, was the Chief Guest for this special day.
The Guest and Dignitaries were adorned with the Graduation Robes and moved towards a group photograph. The ceremony then marked its beginning with the academic procession having the Dignitaries viz., ushered by the Convener Mrs. Dejamma A., The Student Welfare Mentors Mrs. Sushma R. Shetty, Ms. Madhushree, Mrs. Swathi Nayak, The Heads of Departments – Mrs. Sandhya B., Mrs. Jayabharathi K. P., Dr. Ashakiran Pakkala, Mrs. Poornima Naik, Mrs. Sushama C., Dr. Kalpana Prabhu J., Mrs. Vani U. S., Mrs. Rithika S. Das, Mrs. Chethana Gadiyar, the Principal Dr. Premalatha V., the Members of the Governing Board of Management – Sri CA M. Vaman Kamath, Sri Basti Purushotham Shenoy, Sri D. Vasudev Kamath, the Correspondent Sri CA M. Jagannath Kamath, the Manager Sri K. Shivananda Shenoy, the Chief Guest Prof. Dr. P. L. Dharma, Registrar (Evaluation), Mangalore University, Mangalagangothri, and the President of the Programme Sri M. Ranganath Bhat, the Honorary Secretary of Canara High School Association, Mangaluru.
The dignitaries then adorned the dais. The student Ms. Devika and team rendered the invocation and National Song. This was followed by the very meaningful and symbolic task of lighting the ceremonial lamp by the Chief Guest and other Dignitaries on the dais. The President of the Programme, Sri M. Ranganath Bhat, the Honorary Secretary, Canara High School Association, Mangaluru then declared the First Graduation Day open.
The Principal Dr. Premalatha V. welcomed the Guests, Dignitaries and the gathering. In her opening remarks she said – “A teacher plants the seeds of knowledge, sprinkles them with love and patiently nurtures their growth to produce tomorrow’s dreams. It is an awe inspiring day when the graduands walk the ramp dressed in white attire and adorned with the graduation gowns and caps. It is enthralling to see the smiling faces being welcomed by the rapturous applause from the peers and beloved ones as the graduands receive their scrolls of Convocation Degree Certificates from the Chief Guest”.
The Chief Guest Prof. Dr. P. L. Dharma in his Graduation Day address said – “Some milestones in life deserve a special celebration, and graduation is definitely one of them. It marks the culmination of all the time, energy, and hard work that you have put into gaining your qualification; and it gives you a chance to celebrate all that you have achieved. This once in a lifetime experience gives you the chance to dress up in your cap and gown and attend a ceremony celebrating the enormity of your achievement whilst surrounded by your friends, family, teachers and classmates”. He extolled the graduates on their successful completion of their degrees.
Calling upon the graduands, he pointed out that the graduation cap on their head is a reminder of their huge social responsibility henceforth, as they will eventually be stepping into their professional lives. Furthermore, inspiring them to lead a life of righteousness, he said, “Character makes a man’s best asset, and the one with such an asset is himself an asset to the nation”.
Furthermore, while reminiscing his ties with the institution, he congratulated all for the wonderful journey of 50 years where the institution evolved brick by brick to fulfill the academic needs of young students through imparting the education of quality and values. He also appreciated the contribution of Canara College to the nation building process and wished that the institute takes up the greatest responsibility in shaping the young generation as patriots.
He also lauded the institutional efforts of the Principal and the team of teaching and non-teaching faculty for extending their continued support and cooperation to the University whenever it has looked upon for any official collaboration or engagement.
The Correspondent Sri CA M. Jagannath Kamath in his message to the Graduands said – “Graduation is a moment dedicated to celebrating with the people who have been on this journey with you. This isn’t just a day for you to feel proud of yourself; it’s a day for your friends and family to be proud of you too. They have seen your journey and know how you have transitioned into your accomplishments. This is a time to pat yourself on the back and be proud of what you have achieved”.
The President of the Programme Sri M. Ranganath Bhat, Honorary Secretary, Canara High School Association, Mangaluru in his presidential address said – “Graduation is a landmark event. It is a symbolization that things are changing and that your life will be different. It is your segue into the real world. Your graduation ceremony will become a key part of your timeline; a symbol of change, of progression and moving onto new adventures. Take a moment to celebrate what you have achieved so far and appreciate the memory that is part of your education has given you. It’s the start of next chapter in life’s journey ahead.
The Heads of respective Departments presented the graduands before the Principal for the conferment of the degrees. Mrs. Sandhya B. presented the graduands of B.Sc. Programme, Mrs. Jayabharathi K. P. presented the graduands of B.C.A. Programme, Mrs. Dejamma A. presented the graduands of B.Com. Programme, Dr. Kalpana Prabhu J. presented the graduands of B.B.A. Programme, and Mrs. Swathi Nayak presented the graduands of M.Com. Programme. The Chief Guest Prof. Dr. P. L.Dharma, Registrar (Evaluation), Mangalore University, Mangalagangothri, along with other Members of the Governing Board of Management presented the Convocation Degree Certificates to the Graduands.
Ms. Nagalaxmi Shenoy from M.Com. Programme, Mr. Durga Prasad from B.Sc. Programme, Ms. Kavyashree from B.C.A. Programme and Ms. Deepthi from B.Com. Programme shared their nostalgic memories with the Institution. The thanked the teachers for the guidance and support extended by during the testing times of the year.
The Principal Dr. Premalatha V. administered the Graduation Pledge to the Graduands wherein they affirmed to faithfully adhere to the ideals of their Alma mater; promising to work for a better world, pledging to use their knowledge for the well-being of the community in a socially responsible ways; thereby imbibing the Institutional Panchasheela Core Values and the motto Satyam Vada, Dharmam Chara to ever be the guiding principle of their life. The Principal then conferred the degrees upon the Graduands. A total of 283 graduates from different programmes including those in absentia were conferred with their degrees.
The IQAC Coordinators and Conveners of the Programme Mrs. Dejamma A. proposed the vote of thanks and Mr. Hardik P. Chauhan anchored the ceremony.
At the culmination of the ceremonial proceedings, the President of the programme Sri M. Ranganath Bhat, Honorary Secretary, Canara High School Association, Mangaluru dissolved the Graduation Day. The ceremony concluded with respectfully signing the National Anthem.
The students then had a photo session capturing their memories on camera, along with their teachers and fellow mates sharing the dais one last time. The day ended with big smiles on the faces of the new graduates. It was truly a memorable day to remember and cherish. All then joined for the fellowship lunch.
The ceremony marked the celebration of milestones and educational achievements that students put into their educational pursuits. The exuberating moment bore testimony to the fruitful culmination of the industrious educational journey on which the graduands embarked upon. The campus brimmed with the hopes, dreams and aspirations of the graduating students. The ecstatic parents along with the students were excited to be at the threshold of a new chapter in their lives.
The ceremony was witnessed by the gracious presence of the Heads of Sister Institutions, Former Principal of the Institute Dr. K. V. Malini, other special invitees, staff and parents of the graduands.
The event strived to promote the core values of instilling a value system and eliciting quest for excellence among the graduates.
