On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi and Shasthri Jayanthi, the NSS Units of Canara College, Mangaluru, in collaboration with the Lions and Leo Club of Kadri Hills, Kadri, Mangaluru, organised a Plastic Awareness Drive by cleaning the beach at Tannir Bhavi and the monument at Sulthan Battery on October 02, 2022.
This initiative began at 7.30 a.m. with the cleaning of the monument at Sulthan Battery, followed by the collection of plastic debris on Tannir Bhavi beach. Volunteers collected a large quantity of plastic debris and trash and kept the beach area clean and tidy. Volunteers educated local store owners and citizens on the proper disposal of plastic garbage. The purpose of this initiative was to instill in the volunteers a sense of responsibility and awareness regarding proper garbage disposal and the consequences of plastic on our ecology.
This initiative was actively participated in by 97 NSS Volunteers in total. The volunteers were accompanied by NSS Programme Officers Mrs. Seema Prabhu S., Mrs. Vani U.S., and Assistant Programme Officers Mrs. Vijetha Bhat and Mrs. Sushma C. Lion. Sumithra Shetty, President of the Lions Club, Kadri Hills, was present, along with Ln.Prakash, Ln.Sathish, Ln. Ratnakar, Ln. Thirumalesh, and Ln.Shirdhar.
