Awareness Programme on “Cyber Crime”

The NSS units of the college, in association with the Lions and Leo Club of Kadri Hills, Mangaluru, arranged a programme to promote awareness about “Cyber Crime.” The speaker, Mrs. Geetha Kulakarni, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Mangaluru, addressed the prevalence of mobile phone use and cybercrime on October 12, 2022.

She said that more women are being abused, threatened, and degraded on online platforms. When the general public is the target of numerous frauds, it is our duty to be cautious and aware in order to prevent such crimes and raise awareness among others. She described several cybercrimes, including online employment fraud, image morphing, phone spoofing, cyber stalking, ransom ware, online dating, and online shopping. As a precaution, she recommended students not exchange OTPs, credit card and debit card information, financial transactions, Aadhar card information, photographs, or links shared by unknown parties. She emphasised that preventing crimes and raising awareness about them are two weapons that safeguard the nation and represent our commitment to the community. She raised awareness of the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal of the Government of India.

Lions Club President Ln. Sumithra Shetty, members Ln. Prashant Pai, Ln. Pooja Pai, NSS Programme Officers of the College Mrs. Seema Prabhu S., Mrs.Vani U.S., and Assistant Programme Officers Mrs. Vijetha Bhat, Mrs. Sushma C were present.

Ms. Shreema welcomed the gathering, and Ln. Pooja Pai introduced the resource person. Mr. Akshay proposed vote of thanks and Mr. Likhith compered the programme. In total, 126 NSS volunteers greatly benefited from this awareness programme.
