In commemoration of the Golden Jubilee Year of our college, the Department of Science, and the Department of Commerce and Management Association, on December 03, 2022, organized an Inter-College PU Level Fest – ‘Scitech 2022 and Commfiesta’.
The inauguration of the program began with the rendition of prayer by Ms. Shweta Kamath (II BCA) and Ms. Vaishali ( II BCA), followed by the welcome of the Chief Guest by Mrs. Dejamma A. HOD., Commerce and Management. Mrs. Sandhya B., Head, Department of Basic Sciences, gave an insight into the fest. Later, the customary lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries marked the formal commencement of the programme.
Dr. Malini K. V., former principal, Canara College, the Chief Guest and inaugurator of the fest, expressed, “The 150 years of innovation and creativity in the field of science has improved the quality of life and lifespan.” Further, citing examples of great scientists and their serendipitous inventions, she observed, “Curiosity, when coupled with scientific temperament, sprouts in the fertility of mind, leading to path-breaking inventions and discoveries.”
Prof. Dr. Radhakrishna S. Aithal, Director, Canara Group of Institutions, and the Guest of Honour for the program expressed his joy to know that it is the very first PU level fest organized by Canara College. Advising the contenders, he told them to channelise their hidden talent, energy and ideas; and “explore the world”.
Sri. CA Jagannath Kamath, Alternate Treasurer, C.H.S. Association, and Correspondent, Canara College, in his presidential remark said that the participants are the valuable assets of our nation and he encouraged them to participate more and more in such competitions
Mrs. Usha Nayak, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce and Management, proposed the vote of thanks. Ms. Sheethal Pai of Final BSc compered the program.
The Valedictory of the same began at 2.30pm in the college seminar hall. Mrs. Ashalatha, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce and Management delivered the welcome speech and introduced the Chief Guest Dr. Ummappa Poojary P. to the audience. Mrs. Jayabharathi K. P., Head, Department of Computer Science presented a report about the various competitions conducted in the fest.
“Change or else change will overtake us. We need to update ourselves or we become outdated,” emphatically asserted, Dr. Ummappa Poojary P., Associate Professor and Dean-Academic, Shree Gokarnanatheshwara Educational Institutions, while speaking as the Chief Guest at the Valedictory program. Elaborating on the modern day mantra- “Survival of the latest,” he added, “One must keep oneself abreast with the latest knowledge to be the survivor in today’s cut-throat competitive world.”
Dr. Premalatha V., in her presidential remark affirmed that, patience and perseverance pave the path to success. 48 students from 11 different PU colleges participated in Scitech 2022 and 53 students from 10 different PU colleges participated in Commfiesta. 22 students from Commerce and Management Association took active participation in the organizing of COMMFIESTA. The Scitech-2022, Overall Championship was bagged by St. Philomena PU College, Puttur, while Padua PU College won the Overall Runners-Up.
For Commfiesta-2022, St. Agnes PU College, Mangaluru and Sharada PU College, Mangaluru, bagged the Overall Championship and Runners-up trophy respectively.
Mrs. Usha Nayak, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce and Management, proposed the vote of thanks. Ms. Sanjana Sanjay of Final BBA compered the programme.
