Ayurveda, the three millennia old healthcare medicine system that evolved in the Indian subcontinent, is based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body and spirit. Intending to familiarize Ayurveda among the masses and to teach girl students the holistic ways to live a more authentic, healthy and balanced life, an interactive session on ‘Women Health and Ayurveda’ was organized by the Cell for Women and Gender Studies and Women Empowerment Cell on December 09, 2022 at 3.15pm., in the college seminar hall. Dr. Harsha Kamath was the resource person for the programme.
Highlighting the vital role that food plays in maintaining good health, Dr. Harsha Kamath pointed out, “Food is one of the most important pillars of healthy life. Food can even alter one’s moods.” Further she added that a proper diet not just enhances one’s health but also ensures healthy glowing skin. She also enumerated the different benefits that amla, aloe vera, tulsi, ginger and many such herbs and spices have.
Suggesting some home remedies to reduce abdominal cramps during menstruation, Dr. Harsha advised the girls to regularly practice yoga especially postures like Bhujangasana and Dhanurasana.
“Keeping yourself well-hydrated; having ample of sleep; following the routine of early to bed and early to rise; cultivating hobbies like reading books, listening to light music and motivational speeches, and above all setting attainable goals in life and striving to accomplish them, are all equally and very much essential for leading a stress-free life full of vitality, enthusiasm and optimism,” emphasized Dr. Kamath.
