The Centre for Post Graduate Studies in Commerce hosted “Business Launch” as an experiential learning programme on December 19, 2022 at 2.15pm. It was an exhilarating experience for the students to get first-hand experience: what it’s like to run a business and to learn about all sorts of new things, from marketing to accounting. Our total student strength was divided into three groups, which were considered as companies with the names “CAN-GROW,” “AIKYAM,” and “CAN-LAND.” Each company had a board of directors, a CEO, marketing managers, finance managers, and public relations officers. These companies developed customized Canara Merchandise Products to sell at the Canara Global Alumni Meet.
A certificate of incorporation was handed over to the companies by the Chief Guest of the programme, Sri. CA Jagannath Kamath, Correspondent of our college. The dignitaries of the programme unveiled the company logos. Each company chose celebrity alum to represent their brand. Mr. Bhakshith Salian, Khelo India Coach, was chosen by Can-Grow; Mr. Vismaya Vinayak, a renowned actor, was chosen by Can-Land; and Aikyam chose Sri Vedavyas Kamath, MLA, Mangalore South Constituency, as their brand ambassador. A video in which the ambassadors promoted their companies was shown to the audience on this occasion.
Encouraging the students, the Chief Guest spoke, “By immersing oneself in the practical act of launching a business, one can gain valuable skills and insights in all aspects of business, from developing a business plan to managing customer relationships.” He further added, “It is a wonderful learning opportunity for students because it blends academic learning, such as exploring the principles of business finance, with practical experiences, such as developing a business plan and marketing strategy.”
Mrs. Swathi Nayak, PG Coordinator, welcomed the gathering; Mrs. Megha, faculty, briefed about the business launch; Dr. Prashanth Bhat delivered the vote of thanks; and the programme was compared by Ms. Akshaya Pai. Mrs. Dejamma, HOD of Commerce and Management, motivated the students with her gracious presence. The programme was attended by 43 students. This programme achieved the core values of contribution to national development, fostered global competencies and human excellence among students, promoted the use of technology for a green environment and elicited quest for excellence.
