The department of Botany organized an Educational field visit for I BZ and BC students to the Mangalore Biotech laboratory in Pumpwell, Mangaluru, on February 27, 2023. A group of seven students was accompanied by two members of the teaching faculty, Ms. Madhushree and Mrs. Nishvitha Shetty.
The Mangalore Biotech Laboratory (MBL) is a NABL-accredited laboratory with a Research & Development Centre in Mangalore. They offer Environmental Hygiene and Sanitation, Food, Water, and Beverage Analysis, Industrial Water and Water Waste Analysis, Aquaculture-Hatchery, and Farm Sample Analysis, among other services. The laboratory is equipped with the most advanced technology for conducting tests and analyses in microbiology, chemistry, biotechnology, and environmental science.
Mr. Anandram Krishnan, manager, provided a brief description of the laboratory’s sample testing procedures and introduced the staff. The students were separated into groups and taken to the laboratory, where the staff-in-charge explained the food and water testing procedures. In addition, students were instructed on the operating principle and applications of the many laboratory instruments used in the laboratory. This activity has endeavored to inculcate core values such as fostering global competencies, promoting the use of technology, and the quest for excellence.
