The Centre for Post Graduate Studies in Commerce organised a session on resume making and opportunities in online job portals on May 12, 2023. During the hour-long programme Mr. Sajan Acharya, Head and Assistant Professor, Department of PG Studies in Commerce, Govinda Dasa College, Mangaluru, presented insights into how to make the resume more effective and impactful. He also briefed the students about the benefits of online job portals.
The session began with an overview of the different resume formats, dos, and don’ts. Here, the resource person emphasised the importance of using key words and action verbs to customise the resume to the job description and using the appropriate format to highlight the most relevant skills and experiences. Later on, he discussed the importance of a LinkedIn profile and how it can help showcase one’s skills and experiences to potential employers. The speaker also talked about how to create an effective LinkedIn profile, engage with connections, and utilise the platform for networking and job searching. In addition to presenting the different aspects of LinkedIn, he also shared some tips and tricks to optimise one’s LinkedIn presence.
Finally, the programme concluded with a question and answer session, where attendees were able to ask specific questions about resumes and the usage of LinkedIn.
The session was conducted with the objective of educating participants about the significance of a well-designed and tailored resume in grabbing the attention of employers and securing job opportunities. 32 students benefitted from this programme. This activity aimed to achieve global competency and quest for excellence
