The Department of Zoology organized a field educational visit to St. Aloysius Museum for II. B.Sc. students on May 17, 2023, from 4 pm to 5 pm. The primary objective of the visit was to enlighten the students about the fascinating animal specimens exhibited in the museum.
The museum has a fascinating collection of skeletons, including a whale obtained from Beliapatam near Calicut, along with specimens of a tiger, panther, antelope, and wild boar. Additionally, there are displays of animal bones, animal skins, skulls, and a clutch of ostrich eggs. Notably, Dr. Hareesh Joshi’s contributions are showcased in the form of a collection of frogs, including the Euphlyctis aloysii, a species named after the College. The museum also houses antique laboratory equipment and some well-preserved old herbarium sheets.
The visit proved to be an engaging and informative educational tour, and a total of 19 students actively participated, enriching their knowledge about the diverse animal kingdom through this unique experience.
This activity strived to achieve of fostering global values, promoting use of technology, eliciting quest for excellence amongst the student beneficiaries.
