On June 27, 2023, a group of 12 student representatives of Student Council embarked on a journey with a noble motive to make someone smile. The destination was Vatslya Seva Trust in Karkala. The team of students, led by the Secretary of Student Council Mr. Amogh Baliga and the Student Welfare Mentor Mrs. Swathi Nayak began the journey from college at 9.30 am.
Upon reaching Vatslya Seva Trust, the team was warmly greeted by the Trust Manager, who introduced them to the elderly. The atmosphere was filled with positivity and enthusiasm, setting the stage for a memorable day ahead.
To bring smiles to the faces of the elderly, several engaging activities were organized. The first activity was a game of “Housie Housie,” where the elderly eagerly participated and showcased their competitive spirit. Another activity involved “Fill in the Phrase,” To foster personal connections, the team engaged in heart-to-heart and eye-to-eye interactions with the elderly. The elderly shared their life experiences, wisdom, and valuable insights. This interaction not only offered a chance to make them feel cherished and respected but also provided the team members with a unique perspective on life.
As part of the visit, the team explored the nearby temple Ghoshala (cow shelter). The serene ambiance of the temple provided a moment for reflection and gratitude. At the Ghoshala, the team learned about the Trust’s efforts to care for and protect cows, an integral part of Indian culture.
The visit to Vatslya Seva Trust was a remarkable experience, filled with joy, learning, and compassion. Through various activities and interactions, the team successfully accomplished the objective of making someone smile. The engagement with the senior citizens emphasized the importance of empathy, understanding, and human connection.
This visit not only brought happiness to the elderly but also left a lasting impact on the team members. By actively participating in such initiatives, we can contribute to the well-being of society and create a positive change, one smile at a time.
