The Final year B.Com B and C batch students of Department of Commerce and Management were taken to Bolas Agro Private Ltd, Kedinje, Karkala on June 28, 2023. Mr. Bola Rajath Kamath, Full-time Director warmly received the team of 46 students with two staff members.
Mrs. Deepa, Supervisor illustrated the complete process of how cashews are procured, packaged and exported. Students were given a chance to observe from stage one. Here, raw cashews are stored in a warehouse above the ground level in a dry place. In the second stage, they are sent to another warehouse through conveyor belts, where the outer shell is broken through the heating process and then the vibration method is used to separate cashew nuts from the shell.
Later cashew nuts are passed on to another chamber where steam is passed to make cashew nuts softer. In the third stage, students observed the process of sorting cashew nuts according to their size, colour, shape, and then grading, packaging, labeling it. Major work of cashew nut processing was done through machines.
Students also observed the complete process of how almond, dry grapes, walnuts and dates are received and packaged in small quantities with their branding. Here, majority work of processing is done manually.
Students got to know about the 70 outlets of BOLAS CASHEW FACTORY. The Academic Class Mentors Mrs. Usha Nayak and Mrs. Jayashree Shetty accompanied the students for the visit. On the way back to college, students were also taken to Murudeshwar Temple.
