The Department of Zoology organized a visit to the Departmental Museum for I-year open elective students on June 30, 2023, from 3:15 pm to 4:15 pm. The main purpose of this visit was to provide the students with practical exposure to the parasites of the human body, complementing their studies in parasitology. Additionally, the visit aimed to enhance their understanding of different phyla through the exhibition of various animal specimens. A total of 61 students actively participated in this engaging activity.
During the visit, the students had the opportunity to observe various endoparasites, such as liver flukes, roundworms, and tapeworms, which are commonly found in the human body.
Apart from the study of parasites, another captivating section of the museum that caught the students’ attention was the display of animal specimens. The museum showcased a wide range of well-preserved specimens belonging to various phyla, including coelenterates, echinodermata, mollusks, nemathelminthes, platyhelminthes, annelidans, as well as non-chordates and chordates from the classes pisces, reptilia, and amphibia. Furthermore, the museum also exhibited beautiful corals and molluscan shells.
The museum provided an enriching experience for the students, allowing them to observe and learn from more than 198 specimens on display. This visit served as a valuable practical learning opportunity, reinforcing the students’ understanding of parasitology and broadening their knowledge of the animal kingdom. This activity strived to achieve fostering global competency and eliciting quest for excellence amongst the student beneficiaries.
