Dakshina Kannada District Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Karnataka, Lions Club Katipalla- Krishnapura, Neuberg Anand Reference Laboratory, Mangaluru in association with the NSS Units of Canara College, Mangaluru and SDM Law College, Mangaluru, jointly organized the Awareness Walkathon on account of World AIDS Day and World Diabetes Day, on December 01, 2023 at 7:00am from Bavute Gudde to SDM Law College, Mangaluru.
The world can end AIDS with communities leading the way. That is why the WHO theme for World AIDS Day this year is “Let Communities Lead”, and much more than a celebration of the achievements of communities, it is a call to action to enable and support communities in their leadership roles. Though there has been significant progress in addressing HIV/AIDS and Diabetes thanks to the advancement in medical research and increased access to treatment and prevention, still there is a long way to go for the complete eradication of these diseases.
During the walkathon, the 56 NSS Volunteers gave a rallying cry to commit to working towards the elimination of AIDS and diabetes. Neuberg Anand Reference Laboratory made provision of Regular Monitoring: Your Key to Managing Diabetes, Free Health Camp with free BP, free fasting sugar test. Many made use of this opportunity by getting the free health checkup done at the hands of expert doctors and trained nurses. Mrs. Seema Prabhu S. and Mrs. M. Keerthana Bhat, the NSS Programme Officers coordinated the awareness walkathon.
