The 51stAnnual Sports Day of Canara College was organized by the Department of Physical Education on Tuesday, March 05, 2024 at Mangala Stadium. The programme began with the students of various classes headed by their respective captain’s march with enthusiasm to the beat of the band. Mr. Giridhar Salian, International Master Athlete was the Chief Guest during the programme.
The Chief Guest received guard of honor and hoisted the college flag on this occasion. The dignitaries were escorted to the stage by Mr. Avinash, Physical Education Director of the college. The stage programme commenced with an invocation by the college prayer team. Dr. Premalatha V., Principal, gave the welcome address and introduced the Chief Guests. The Sports Day was declared open by the dignitaries releasing the balloons symbolizing the vibrant hopes of the sporting students that were flying high. Mr. Pranay Alva, Sports Secretary, administered the oath to the students.
The Chief Guest Mr. Giridhar Salian gave the inaugural address. He said, “Parents should always motivate their children to take part in sports. At the same time, physical fitness is also mandatory.” He expressed his happiness and felt honored to be a part of this event.
CA Vaman Kamath, Correspondent, Canara Evening College and Canara Vikaas Group of Institutions spoke on the importance of physical fitness and sports among the student community. He concluded by wishing the event a grand success. Mr. K. Shivananda Shenoy, Manager, Canara College graced the occasion. Altogether, 11 events were conducted during Sports Day for both men and women, among which Tug of War was the highly exciting event.
Ms. Pooja Gowda Yashodar, Secretary of Sports Association, proposed the vote of thanks. Mrs. Keerthi Alva, Department of Mathematics, compered the programme. The Individual Championship of 51st Annual Sports Meet was bagged by Mr. Sagar Deep of III BCom C in Men section and Ms. Sriraksha of III BCom C in Women section. At the end of the day, the 51st Annual Sports Meet turned out to be a grand success.• This activity strived to foster global competency and elicit quest for excellence amongst the student beneficiaries.
