In compliance with the directives from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (Government of India), the NSS units of Canara College, in association with NSS Cell, Mangalore University and Regional Directorate of NSS, Bengaluru, organised a one day college level ‘Swachhata Camping and Voter Awareness Drive’ on the occasion of Shaheedi Diwas, on March 30, 2024 at Canara College, Mangaluru
Mr. D. Carthiguene, Regional Director, NSS, Bengaluru was the inaugurator and Chief Guest of the programme. During his address to the NSS volunteers, Mr. D. Carthiguene urged first-time voters to conscientiously exercise their voting rights, emphasizing the importance of their positive contribution to nation-building. Furthermore, he commended the unwavering dedication and commitment displayed by all NSS units under the purview of NSS, Mangalore University. Dr. Nagarathna K. A., NSS Coordinator, Mangalore University was the Guest of Honour. She said that the work of inculcating the spirit of selfless service and patriotism among the youth should be continued through NSS.
The NSS volunteers kicked off their day at 8:15 am with a focused effort towards Swachhata (cleanliness). Engaging in Shramdana, they diligently picked up litter, ensuring the pristine cleanliness of both the College campus and the surrounding roads in the neighbourhood.
With the objective to raise awareness among the first-time voters, Prof. Pushparaj K., Assistant Professor, SDM Law College, Mangaluru was invited for the afternoon session as the keynote speaker on the topic: “Mera Pehla Vote Desh Ke Liye”. He underscored the value of their voting rights and also elaborated on the various options provided on their Electronic Voting Machine at the polling booth.
Principal of the College Dr. Premalatha V. presided over the function. Mrs. Seema Prabhu S., NSS Programme Officer, administered the Voter’s Pledge to the NSS Volunteers. It was followed by signing of the Voter Awareness Pledge. Another NSS Programme Officer, Mrs. M. Keerthana Bhat, welcomed the gathering, while Mr. Sathwik Acharya, proposed the vote of thanks. The whole programme was compered by Mr. Likhith.
190 NSS volunteers enthusiastically participated in the programme. This activity strived to contribute to national development and to inculcate a value system amongst the volunteers.
