In a noteworthy community service initiative, 11 National Service Scheme Volunteers of Canara College, Mangaluru actively volunteered at different polling booths on April 26, 2024 for one day, contributing their time and efforts towards the smooth functioning of the democratic process of voting during the festival of Democracy.
India is the world’s largest democracy. For the smooth functioning and success of the electoral process on the day of the Lok Sabha General Election, the helping hands and sincere contribution of volunteers are essential at all the polling sites. Canara Institute, as always, ahead of Lok Sabha Elections, in response to the request sent to colleges by the local governing bodies to assign students to work as volunteers in polling booths on the voting day, responded promptly sending its passionate NSS Volunteers to the designated polling booths.
With utmost dedication and perfection, the NSS volunteers, on the Election Day, successfully carried out all their specified tasks like helping the elderly and differently-abled voters to reach the polling booth without any difficulty. Following the rules of the precincts, they also assisted the Election-Helpers to check the incoming voters against the electoral roll to establish their voting rights in that particular voting centre. In short, the volunteers ensured a hassle-free and happy voting experience for each voter. The selfless efforts of the Volunteers have set an inspiring example of how small acts of service can contribute significantly to the welfare of the society. The NSS Programme Officers, Mrs. Seema Prabhu S. and Mrs. M. Keerthana Bhat coordinated this extension activity.
