A group of 39 final B.Com students with 3 staff members from Canara College embarked on a trekking expedition to Nevalsa in Ankola. The group departed from Canara College early in the morning at 8 AM on 4th May equipped with necessary gear and provisions for the trek. The journey to Nevalsa from Canara College took approximately 3.5 hrs by bus. On the very first day students got the opportunity to meet Padmashri Sukri Bommanagowda belonging to Halakki Vokkaliga tribe in Ankola. She has received several awards including Padmashree one of the highest civilian honours for her contributions and her work in preserving traditional tribal music. Sukri Bomma Gowda, known for her affable personality and strong connection to local culture, warmly greeted the students upon their arrival at Ankola.
Her welcoming demeanor helped to create a friendly and inclusive atmosphere, instantly putting the students at ease and setting a positive tone for the adventure ahead. From there we moved to Nevalsa. The accommodation was in school near Nevalsa. Next day the trekking was scheduled early morning. Trekking route involved hiking through dense forests and ascending moderate slopes typical of the Western Ghats terrain. Upon reaching Nevalsa, the group set up base camp and explored the surroundings, including nearby waterfalls and viewpoints.
