INAUGURATION: The Centre for Postgraduate Studies in Commerce organized ‘SAMSHODHANA-2024’, a state-level inter-collegiate paper presentation competition, and ‘SAMARTHYA’, a state-level inter-collegiate best management team event for UG students on June 5, 2024, at Canara College. The chief guest of the program was Dr.TPM Pakkala, Adjunct Professor, at Mangalore University-Mangalagangothri.
In his inaugural address, he said, “Everything cannot be taught in class, and subject skills, domain knowledge skills, and soft skills can only be attained when a student participates in fests.”The Principal of the college, Dr. Premalatha V., urged the students to pursue higher education and show interest in the research area, as it is essential to their present career.
Mrs. Swathi Nayak, the Postgraduate Coordinator and Staff Convener of SAMARTHYA, graciously welcomed the attendees. Ms. Hruthika, the student convener of SAMARTHYA, delivered the vote of thanks. Additionally, Mrs.Sneha Pai, a faculty member of the M.Com department, adeptly hosted the inauguration program.
SAMSHODHANA: The session was divided into two panels based on themes: finance, marketing, taxation, and banking. In the afternoon, a technical session titled “From Draft to Publication: Quality Research Writing” was organized, and Mr.Karthik K. Kamath, a research scholar from NITK, was the resource person. After the post-technical session, a research quiz competition was conducted by student conveners Ms.Ashwini Hegde and Ms. Bhargavi Shetty. 26 participants took part in Samshodhana 2024.
SAMARTHYA: The best management team event, SAMARTHYA, was meticulously organized for undergraduate students to showcase and enhance their management competencies. Participation was marked by six distinguished teams from various colleges, each comprising five members. The event encompassed several rounds, including a quiz, balance sheet preparation, mad ad, and debate. The participants engaged with remarkable enthusiasm and provided exceptionally constructive feedback to the student organizers of SAMARTHYA. 30 UG students from various colleges in and around Mangalore participated in this event.
VALEDICTORY: The valedictory session commenced at 4:00 PM. The chief guest, Mr.Sumesh Matada, an esteemed alumnus of the institution, delivered an inspiring address. He encouraged the students to engage in further competitions, highlighting that such initiatives significantly bolster employability skills. Additionally, Mr.Matada shared his vision of Mangalore evolving into an industrial hub, which will, in turn, generate excellent employment opportunities for the local community.
CA M. Jagannath Kamath, the Correspondent of the college, offered insightful presidential remarks regarding the program. The prize distribution ceremony was gracefully conducted by Sri K. Shivananda Shenoy, the Manager of the college, Dr.Deepti Nayak, the Administrator, and Dr. Premalatha V., the Principal, who collectively presented the awards to the deserving recipients. Mrs. Megha, the faculty convener of SAMSHODHANA, provided a comprehensive overview of the day’s activities in her report.
