A Workshop on Gender Sensitivity: Going Beyond Conditioning

June 8, 2024

A workshop on “Gender Sensitivity: Going Beyond Conditioning,” an IQAC initiative, was organized by the Cell for Women and Gender Studies for Undergraduate Students on June 8, 2024, at 9.30 a.m. in our college seminar hall. The resource person for the workshop was Ms. Nivedita Mirajkar, Behavioral Trainer, Mangaluru.

The resource person made the students understand the difference between sex and gender, how gender is socially constructed, and the stereotypes around gender roles. She mentioned which assumptions in matters of gender are valid and which are stereotyped.

She conducted a few interesting activities that improved the mutual understanding and facilitated the exchange of ideas between the boys and the girls. Student participants acknowledge the different rights, roles, and responsibilities of women and men in the community and the relationships between them.

At the end of the workshop, the resource person advised the participants to lead a morally upright life and to inculcate egalitarian behaviour to foster gender equality.

61 students, including both boys and girls, benefitted from this hour-long, enriching, and fruitful workshop. The students appreciated the new perspective shared with them in the workshop and expressed gratitude to the organizing team for arranging such a path-breaking workshop.

Ms. Rithika V, Ms. Kushi M. S., and Ms. Greeshma P, students of I B.Sc., rendered the prayer. Ms. Srinidhi R. Shetty of I B.Sc, welcomed the gathering. Mr. Tushar K, Student convenor, CWGS, introduced the resource person. Ms. Bhoomika Prabhu, II BCom C, proposed the vote of thanks. Ms. Akshatha Karanth was the master of the ceremony.
