Kargil Vijay Diwas 2024-25

On July 26, 2024, at 10 a.m., the Student Welfare Council of Canara College commemorated Kargil Vijay Diwas at the College Seminar Hall. This event honored India’s triumph in the 1999 conflict with Pakistan and paid tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of Indian soldiers.

The Chief Guest, LD (Retd) Somashekhar Shetty of the Armoured Corps, Indian Army, expressed immense pride in the unwavering valour and supreme sacrifice of our soldiers. He recounted the harrowing incidents of betrayal by the neighbouring country and the awe-inspiring retaliation that led to India’s resounding victory.

LD (Retd) Shetty also shared the inspiring story of Captain Vikram Batra, renowned for his indomitable spirit and bravery during the Kargil War. After successfully capturing Point 5140, Captain Batra famously declared, “Yeh Dil Maange More.”

As an alumnus of Canara College, LD (Retd.) Somashekhar Shetty praised the institute’s contribution to the Indian Navy, highlighting the achievements of Disha Amrit, the determined young woman from Mangalore who reached great heights of success.

In his address to the students, he advised, “This is your golden period. Be self-reliant, do not fall prey to smoking and alcohol. Instead, invest your time in spiritualism and meditation. Be a socially responsible citizen and make the best of your life.”

In her presidential address, Dr. Premalatha V., Principal of Canara College, with overwhelming emotions, expressed profound gratitude as she honoured the Indian soldiers who made the paragon sacrifice during the Kargil War. She commended their bravery in ensuring the safety and sanctity of our borders and upholding the integrity of our nation.

Can cabinet president Mr. Harshith welcomed the gathering and secretary Mr. Brugu proposed the vote of thanks. Cabinet member Ms. Manaswi compered the programme.

A total of 115 students took part in Kargil Vijay Diwas.
