Awareness programme on “Organ Donation”

September 11, 2024

To raise awareness about organ donation, its benefits, and the processes involved, the Youth Red Cross Unit, in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS) of our college, organized an Organ Donation Awareness Program on September 11, 2024. The program aimed to educate volunteers about the critical importance of organ donation. The event featured Dr. Avin Alva, Secretary of the Indian Medical Association, as the resource person. Dr. Alva began his speech by highlighting alarming statistics surrounding organ failure and the urgent need for organ donors. He also encouraged students to consider organ donation as a selfless act that can save lives.

Dr. Alva emphasized that one donor can save multiple lives, making organ donation a crucial aspect of modern healthcare. He also addressed common misconceptions and fears surrounding organ donation, urging participants to look beyond myths and consider the ethical implications.

The Organ Donation Awareness Program concluded with an interactive Q&A session. The event successfully raised awareness and sparked interest among the volunteers to advocate for organ donation within their communities. A total of 36 YRC and 21 NSS students participated in the session.

This activity was coordinated under the guidance of Youth Red Cross Programme Officers Mrs. Roopashri K. P. and Mrs. Rashmi, and NSS Programme Officers Mrs. M. Keerthana Bhat and Mrs. Sushama C.
