CELEBRATION OF INTERNATIONAL DAY OF DEMOCRACY-2024

The NSS Units of Canara College celebrated International Day of Democracy by partaking in the Human Chain Formation on September 15, 2024 near Padua High School at 9:00 A.M.
Every year, on September 15 large number of people around the world come together to celebrate International Day of Democracy. This special day was established by the UN General Assembly in 2007, in order to promote and strengthen democratic values. Since its inception hundreds of events have been held globally to mark this important day.

Karnataka marked its International Day of Democracy-2024 on Sunday, September 15, 2024 by forming the world’s longest human chain aiming to symbolize equality, unity, fraternity, and participative governance. The event highlighted the importance of citizen engagement in the democratic process. It celebrated the core principles of freedom, equality and participation.
The Human Chain was formed from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. During the event, the participants patriotically sung the State Anthem. Then, before the human chain disengaged there was reading of the Preamble to the Indian Constitution aiming to provide citizens with the tangible reminder of the constitutional values that underpin the nation’s democratic system. The College Principal Dr. Premalatha V., 10 teaching and non-teaching staff, the NSS Program officer Mrs. M. Keerthana Bhat and 35 NSS Volunteers actively took part in this event highlighting the importance of citizen engagement in the democratic process.
