The Workshop on “Graphic Design” was conducted by Department of Business Administration on September 19, 2024 to introduce first-year BBA students to essential graphic design principles and tools. As visual communication plays a significant role in business, the workshop aimed to equip students with the skills necessary to create visually compelling presentations, social media content, and marketing materials. A total of 30 first-year BBA students attended the workshop, demonstrating a strong interest in learning the basics of graphic design.
The resource person was Mrs. Megha, Lecturer, Centre for PG Studies in Commerce, Canara College, Mangaluru. The workshop combined lecture with hands-on activities to ensure students could apply their learning immediately. Demonstrations on design software were conducted, followed by individual exercises where students created basic designs under instructor’s guidance. Peer review sessions allowed participants to gain feedback on their work.
The workshop covered the following topics:
• Introduction to Graphic Design: Overview of design principles, including balance, contrast, hierarchy, and alignment
• Color Theory and Typography: Basic color concepts, color psychology, and typography choices for business communication
• Software Tools: Introduction to popular graphic design software Canva for beginners
• Creating Visual Content for Social Media: Tips and techniques for creating, engaging and brand-consistent social media graphics.
• Logo and Branding Basics: Essentials of creating a logo and understanding brand identity.
Feedback from students was overwhelmingly positive, with many appreciating the practical, hands-on approach. Some students suggested having more advanced workshops in the future to further develop their skills in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. The workshop was coordinated by Mrs. Seema Prabhu S., Head, Department of Business Administration.• This workshop served to achieve the core values of promoting use of technology and quest for excellence.
