Workshop on Gender Equity in Contemporary India

The Cell for Women and Gender Studies organized a workshop on “Gender Equity in Contemporary India” on November 21, 2024, in the Smt. Rathna S Shenoy Memorial Seminar Hall under the guidance of Mrs. Keerthi and Mrs. Pushpanjali S, the cell convenors. Dr. Shakila Hegde, Associate Professor, Department of Political Science, St. Aloysius College, Mangaluru, was the resource person for the programme. The goal of the workshop was to create awareness about gender equality and its importance in today’s society.
In her talk she briefed about gender socialization, gender stereotypes, agents for gender socialization, and gender equality and highlighted the role of gender champions in the institution. She also included strategies to promote gender equity such as implementing gender-sensitive policies in educational institutions and workplaces, which were highlighted.
In the second session, a quiz on gender sensitization was conducted.
48 students, including both boys and girls, benefitted from this workshop.
The workshop began with a formal function. Ms. Shravya K, Ms. Shetty Ananya Jagannath, and Ms. Niriksha C, students of I B.Sc., rendered the prayer. Ms. Sambhrama welcomed the gathering, highlighting the significance of the workshop and encouraging participants to actively engage in the workshop. Mrs. Pushpanjali, the convenor of the cell, formally introduced the resource person, providing an overview of their expertise. The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Sajan of II BCA B, who expressed gratitude to the resource person, participants, and organizers for making the workshop a success. The workshop proceeded with Ms. Prathiksha Kotian of III B.Sc., compering the program.
