In consonant with the World Environment Day theme 2021 – “Restoration of Ecosystems”, the World Environment Day was commemorated through organizing a webinar on the topic “Role of Educational Institutions in the Restoration of Ecosystems” by Canara College, Mangaluru in association with Sri Adichunchanagiri Education Trust ®, Bengaluru and Organization for Industrial Spiritual and Cultural Advancement (OISCA), Karnataka Chapter on June 05, 2021 at 2:30 PM through Google Meet platform. The programme was also available live on YouTube and Facebook.
Sri Amaranarayana K., Retd. IAS Officer and President, OISCA, Bengaluru Chapter delivered a remarkable Key Note address on the webinar topic. In his address he said – “Under the destructive impact of human activities and human-made practices, the environment surrounding us is in great danger. Owing to large-scale land, air, soil and water pollution, the environment is gradually losing its vigor.” Further, by citing the environment friendly initiatives practiced by him, he elucidated the role of educational institutions in restoring the ecosystems through his meaningful and informative presentation. Sri Nalin, Secretary and Chief Coordinator of OISCA, introduced and acquainted the participants with the concept of Green Wave Programme and also called upon the educational institutions to join and participate in the same.
His Holiness Parama Poojya Sri Sri Sri Dr. Nirmalanandanatha Mahaswamiji, Pontiff, Sri Adichunchanagiri Mahasamsthanamutt, Bengaluru with His divine presence blessed the participants with the divine message. In His message Poojya Swamiji said – “Since 1974, WED has been celebrated every year on June 05, engaging the citizens to address pressing environment issues. The planet’s ecosystems has been destroyed and exploited for varied reasons. However, it is worthwhile to understand that only with healthy ecosystems we can enhance people’s livelihood, counteract climate change and stop the collapse of biodiversity. Above all, the WED offers a global platform for inspiring positive change.” His Holiness appreciated the College for this meaningful programme and showered His divine blessings on all the participants.
The meet was presided by CA M. Vaman Kamath, Treasurer, C.H.S. Association. He in his presidential address said “This day every year reminds us to protect our planet and nature. There is so much we can do individually, as educational institutions and as a community at large. It is the environment that sustains life on earth; without it, no forms of life can exist. Hence it is increasingly necessary to save and conserve the environment and all the blessings that it shows on the human population. Therefore, it calls upon the individuals to rethink about the way they act; for business to develop greener models; for educators to inspire students to take actions; and for youth to build a greener future.”
The disciples of Sri Adichunchanagiri Mahasamsthana Mutt chanted the prayer mantras. Principal Dr. Premalatha V. welcomed the invitees and gathering and also introduced the Guests. IQAC Coordinators Mr. Hardik P. Chauhan proposed the vote of thanks and Mrs. Dejamma A. was the Master of Ceremony for the programme.
80 participants including the delegates from Adichunchanagiri Mahasamsthana Mutt and representatives from OISCA, Members of the Governing Council and staff members of the college participated in the webinar meet and good number of participants including students viewed the programme live on YouTube and Facebook.
The webinar sensitized with a sense of realization on the need and urgency to care, protect and safeguard the environment for a better tomorrow and also for the generations to come.
The webinar strived to promote the core values of contributing to the national development and inculcating a value system amongst all.
