Basic Physics Experiments: Extension activities to the high school students

August 10, 2017

To create and enhance the interest towards Science, Department of Physics conducted workshop in association with Science Association of Canara College for the high school students on Basic Physics on August 10, 2017. The basic concepts in the syllabi of high school are experimentally demonstrated in this workshop.

Students from the final B.Sc. were trained before the workshop by the staff. They explained the concepts of Basic Physics effectively by demonstrating the practical to the students. 100 students from nearby schools were benefited by this programme.

The Basic Physics concepts are taken in the workshop were like finding the value of acceleration due to gravity, frequency of alternating current, focal length of the given lens, values of given resistor & capacitor, behavior of transistor & diode. Phenomenon like diffraction, interference and resonance were also explained.  Students presented Power Point Presentation on nuclear energy and Big Bang theory.

List of Practical setup arranged in the laboratory

  1. Diffraction pattern by the prism using spectrometer
  2. Diffraction pattern by the grating
  3. LASER
  4. Faraday’s Experiment
  5. Simple Pendulum
  6. Tesla Coil
  7. Melde’s experiment
  8. Measuring Instruments
  9. Air Wedge
  10. Newton’s Ring
