Nehru Yuva Kendra Mangalore (NYKS) an organization under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Govt. of India along with other organizations organized ‘Clean India Progamme’ on October 31, 2021 at Tannirbhavi and Bengre Beach. It had been planned in the background of ‘Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav’ in commemoration of 75th anniversary of India’s Independence with a view to mobilize public opinion and ensure involvement of citizens of the country to participate voluntarily in this drive of waste collection and their disposal. 4 YRC volunteers along with NSS Volunteers of Canara College actively participated in this great initiative. YRC Programme Officers Mrs.Smitha M and Mrs. Roopashri K.P. and NSS programme officers Mrs. Seema Prabhu S and Mrs. Vani U.S were also present. This drive started at 7.00 a.m. from Tannirbhavi Beach by picking the waste deposited on the sea shore. Volunteers collected waste within a short time. The programme ended with formal valedictory ceremony at Kasba Bengre beach. The Chief Guest spoke on the need for reducing the creation of waste and litter in our beautiful city, Mangalore and encouraged to take initiative in keeping our city clean and green. With this drive we realized the situation of our beaches which are suffering due to rampant littering.
