Industrial Visit to Concolim, Goa

August 19, 2022

Practical learning plays a pivotal role in having a better understanding of work processes and business functions. Therefore, as an integral part of the curriculum and with an aim to go beyond academics and classroom learning, an industrial visit was arranged to the students of Commerce and Management association on 18th and August 19, 2022.

Day 1: Goan Bounty, is a Fish Processing and Export unit in Conculim. During the visit the students were first briefed about the entire industry background, its functioning, operations and processes involved. Our students received a detailed tour of the whole factory in two batches along with a company personnel explaining the different processing units set up in the factory. The manager of the factory gave a detailed explanation on how the entire processing of fish takes place, right from receiving, sorting, weighing, freezing, shipping, etc. He also explained the various quality standards that need to be followed. We were also taken into a walk-in freezer for a few minutes where the temperature was around -25C. The visit ended with a group picture.

Post-lunch, we headed to Basilica of Bom Jesus in Bainguinim, Goa. The church was absolutely stunning with its high cathedrals, amazing architecture and serene surroundings. We further went for some local sightseeing which brought an end to day.

Day 2: Quality Foods is another Export Unit based in Cuncolim, Goa. The students were fortunate enough to meet the owner, Mr. Ibrahim who gave the students a reality check about their lives; how having a degree is not enough and how one needs to do something different and hustle in order to attain success. He was also kind enough to arrange lunch for the students at the unit itself. This visit was an enriching experience for the students in getting live exposure.

Post-lunch, the team visited John Distilleries in Concolim. Paul John is very much in the mold of the Scottish distilleries. It began with a video presentation on the company’s history. The tour guide was very friendly, knowledgeable and courteous towards our team. The warehouse was massive; and the racks were at least 13ft high. The students got to learn the entire process from scratch.

The industrial visit was filled with learning, fun and self-discovery as well. The industrial visit also motivated the students to do something of their own, work hard and achieve something in their lives. This visit was a great learning experience for the students. It was a perfect balance of learning and leisure.

The visit was completed by seeking the blessings from Sri Mahalaxmi Temple which was located in Goa and it helped us to feel the spiritual ambience.
