“Plastic is a chemical substance that can have a terrible effect on the environment. It does not dissolve in water or decompose in soil. It affects the earth for centuries. It is a deadly material for the living organisms as it pollutes soil, water and air. The plastic products we use daily harm the aquatic life in the womb of the ocean. It is almost challenging and impossible to remove plastic from the ocean due to the persistent nature of plastic in the environment. Moreover, once it has entered the ocean, it continues to break down-macro plastics become microplastics, and microplastics become nano plastics, making recovery even more unlikely. So, we all should stop using plastic and protect the environment.” said Assistant Commandant Shri Mahesh, Gunnery Officer, ICGS VARAHA. He was the resource person for the Seminar on “Plastic Free Ocean” organised by the National Service Scheme Units of the College on July 21, 2022 and created awareness among 123 students about the ill effects of plastic waste.
NSS Programme Officers of the college Mrs. Seema Prabhu S and Mrs. Vani U S coordinated this seminar. NSS volunteers Mr Prajwal welcomed the gathering and Mr Sathwik Shetty proposed the vote of thanks.
