Industrial visits help students to develop and enhance interpersonal skills, and their mental and physical health, to lower their level of stress and have better social connections. It also helps them to enhance their teamwork abilities, communication skills, and interpersonal skills. Industrial visits and educational trips are great platforms for networking. It provides the students with an opportunity to learn practically through interaction, working methods and employment practices. Keeping in mind this objective and as an integral part of the curriculum, an Industrial Visit cum Tour to Wayanad, Kerala was organized for the students of Final BBA, BCom B and C Batch on June 03 and June 04, 2023. 67 students along with 03 faculty members were a part of this recreational tour cum industrial visit.
Day 1: Harrisons Malayalam Limited is one of the oldest agro-based companies in India. It has grown from being the first natural rubber plantation in India to being one of the country’s leading natural rubber and tea producers. The students were given a comprehensive tour of the facility, providing them with invaluable insights into the company’s day-to-day operations and the intricacies of the industry. The students were first briefed about the entire industry background its functioning, operations, and processes involved. Our students received detailed information about the whole factory in two batches along with company personnel explaining the different processing units set up in the factory. The manager of the factory gave a detailed explanation of the entire process.
Post- Lunch we headed to Bee Craft Honey Museum, a honey manufacturing industry with 100% Pure Honey, Natural Honey, Mustard Honey, Sunflower Honey, Ginger Honey, Multi Flora Honey, Lychee Honey and Forest Honey. The students were briefed about the entire functioning, operations and processes involved in honey extraction. They were able to learn about the life cycle of honeybees and their importance in the ecosystem. The students also got an opportunity to taste different qualities of honey that are manufactured for sale. From there, the students were taken to Banasura Sagar Dam which impounds the Karamanathodu tributary of the Kabini River and is a part of the Indian Banasurasagar Project consisting of a dam and a canal project. It is the largest earthen dam in India and the second-largest earthen dam in Asia. The dam is made of massive stacks of stones and boulders.
Day 2: Students visited Edakkal Caves, with Stone Age carvings. They went on trekking excursions to explore them. It takes about an hour for the students to get to the top of the hill, and the path becomes steeper as they go higher. The students took a break for refreshments at stalls located on either side of the uphill hike and took in the breathtaking panorama. The next place visited was Karapulza Dam which gave them a pleasant walk through the woods and where they did adventurous activities like a Zip line ride and to Pookode Lake in the evening.
