In line with our college’s unwavering dedication to environmental sustainability and community development, the National Service Scheme (NSS) units organized a meaningful door-to-door awareness campaign on Waste Management from March 16 to 22, 2023 (a seven day Extension Activity). The primary objective of this campaign was to instill awareness about responsible waste disposal practices, promote waste segregation at source, and contribute to a cleaner and greener environment. The campaign sought to empower both individuals and communities to take proactive steps towards effective waste management.
To ensure the success of the campaign, 246 NSS volunteers received comprehensive training on waste management practices, effective communication, and strategies for engaging with community members. This training was expertly conducted by the NSS Programme Officers, Mrs. Seema Prabhu S, and Mrs. Vani U.S. The volunteers were equipped with informative pamphlets and visuals, which proved invaluable in effectively conveying the message.
Embarking on the door-to-door campaign across various neighborhoods in the locality, NSS volunteers engaged residents in meaningful conversations about waste management. Armed with enthusiasm and knowledge, they distributed informative pamphlets and posters on waste management while discussing the importance of waste segregation at source, the adverse effects of improper waste disposal on the environment, and the pivotal role of individual actions in fostering a sustainable community. Practical demonstrations on waste segregation further solidified the message, showcasing simple techniques for sorting waste into different categories, including recyclables, non-recyclables, and organic waste.
Residents actively participated in the campaign through a question-and-answer session, where volunteers addressed queries and concerns related to waste management and recycling, further promoting understanding and cooperation.
The NSS door-to-door awareness campaign on waste management received an overwhelmingly positive response from the community. Residents deeply appreciated the volunteers’ efforts in spreading knowledge and awareness about responsible waste disposal practices. The campaign effectively fostered a sense of responsibility among individuals, inspiring them to contribute positively to the environment and embark on the journey towards sustainability.
