Jatha on Voter Awareness (An Extension Activity)

NSS Units of Canara College, Mangaluru, joined hands with National Service Scheme Mangalore University and SWEEP of Dakshina Kannada to organise a Jatha on Voter Awareness on May 6, 2023. The primary objective of the Jatha was to spread awareness about the significance of voting and its role in shaping the nation’s future. The NSS volunteers aimed to motivate citizens, especially the youth, to register as voters and understand the power of their vote in influencing policies and electing representatives.

The Jatha commenced from the DC office, Mangaluru and traversed through major thoroughfares and neighbourhoods in the city. The NSS volunteers, adorned in colourful banners and placards carrying slogans emphasizing voter awareness, chanted slogans and distributed informational pamphlets along the way. Local residents, shopkeepers, and bystanders actively participated in the Jatha, making it a lively and engaging event. The NSS volunteers ensured that accurate and unbiased information about the electoral process, voter rights, and responsibilities was disseminated to the public. They educated the public on the importance of voting, the significance of each vote, and the impact of civic participation on the overall development of the nation.

A total of 20 NSS volunteers took part in this jatha. Mrs. Seema Prabhu S. and Mrs. Vani U.S. coordinated this jatha under the guidance of Dr. Nagarthana K.V., NSS Coordinator of Mangalore University.By fostering a sense of responsibility and civic duty, the NSS volunteers have played a crucial role in building a more informed and engaged electorate. Their commendable efforts will undoubtedly contribute to a healthier democracy and a more empowered citizenry.
