The Youth Red Cross unit of our college orchestrated a ‘First Aid Training Programme’ for YRC Volunteers. The event took place on November 15, 2023, in the seminar hall, featuring Mr. Ashwin Kumar M, a SERV instructor and a member of the Indian Red Cross Society, Dakshina Kannada, as the resource person.
Mr. Ashwin Kumar M, a member of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), emphasized the importance of being prepared for emergencies during the ‘First Aid Training Programme.’ He guided the students on essential life-saving skills, handling medical emergencies, and demonstrated how to administer first aid in various situations, such as accidents, bleeding injuries, heart attacks, and choking incidents while eating.
Thetraining program highlighted the objectives of first aid, the proper execution of CPR, the application of different types of bandages, wound care, and other related topics. Students were also educated on managing everyday minor accidents and treating an unconscious, breathing casualty, as well as handling minor cuts, bleeding, and burns.
The 33 NSS volunteers of Canara College, along with Mrs. M. Keerthana Bhat, NSS Programme Officer participated in the Jatha that raised awareness among the masses about our Constitution and also upheld the values enshrined in it- Justice, Liberty, Equality and Fraternity. And the volunteers created awareness about our Constitution among the masses gathered. Commemorating the important day on which the Constitution of India was formally adopted by the Indian Constituent Assembly on 26th November 1949, and which later came into effect on 26th January 1950, Mr. Rao recognized the invaluable contribution of the Father of Indian Constitution–Dr. B. R. Ambedkar. The Preamble to the Indian Constitution was also read out to mark the occasion.
The trainer incorporated video clips on first aid, providing visual insights into the techniques discussed. To enhance understanding, students were divided into groups and received practical demonstrations on first aid. In total, 74 students actively participated in the program. The programme was compered by Ms Mukshi Alva and Ms Deeksha welcomed the gathering. Ms. Varsha member of YRC delivered the vote of thanks.
